One day remains
Today we were preparing everything.
We only had one day to:
- pack,
- tidy,
- make sure everything is downloaded to laptop/rogally
- configure cameras to record motion without paying for shitty app subscriptions
- make sure all services are available outside the network
- finish all the cake
Cameras
We have two cameras from competing brands, one is a ring 'indoor stick up cam' I bought years ago, and the other is a Tapo C110. If we wanted alerts + recordings + able to browse by a preview I would have to shell out £5 per camera per app.
Not only is that a bit shit considering you purchased the physical camera and own the device, you have no idea what they are doing with the videos they save.
Have an article below about how Anker/Eufy would upload the videos and clips without your consent, even if you have the option turned off!

I knew some nerds who cared a lot more than me would've figured this out by now. They did, and it's called 'Frigate'. Essentially your own system you can setup on your own hardware.
It was a bit of a ball ache to setup, because I didn't read any documentation or instructions and just tried to do it all myself.

Making sure it's accessible
I just used tailscale, adding it to every container AND using the proxmox host as a subnet router.
Remember Hamachi and having to get all your friends to download it to setup a Minecraft server that worked 20% of the time? Imagine that but it actually works.
Downloading everything
One thing I hate about Linux is that some shit can just break silently and never tell you what is wrong.
After downloading hundreds of games, some just never loaded. No error, unless you are running everything from the terminal and seeing what fucks up live.
It is even more of a pain if you consider that I am trying to do all of this on a remote desktop session... or plugging it in via a hub and then trying to transfer everything over an SMB network share...
Funny thing is everything on my Windows 10 laptop with everything modified to Windows XP just works! But I am not fucking with that on a handheld.
